About the PIE
The Program for Intensive English (PIE) has seven levels of English, from beginner to advanced academic English. Whether your goal is to work towards university admission, advancing your career, or improving your English for daily life - we welcome all students age 16 and older to study at the PIE.
Sessions
We offer six sessions each year, starting in January, March, May, June, August, or October. Students can start studying at PIE at the beginning of any of our sessions. Each session lasts approximately 8 weeks in the Fall and Spring, and 6 weeks in the Summer. Class days are longer in the Summer sessions so that you will always get the same amount of class instruction, no matter when you start. Click here to see our upcoming session dates.
Testing and Levels
All students take an in-person placement test during orientation to determine their starting level. You do not need to take a placement test before you arrive. We test students on their listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills.
After grading tests and speaking with students, we provide students with their starting level placement. We offer 7 levels of English, ranging from beginner to advanced academic.
Classes
We offer classes in: Listening & Speaking, Reading & Writing, and Structure in Use (Grammar). Our class sizes are small (less than 15 students per class) and are taught by expert instructors.
Our classes are all in-person on campus. We believe in immersion and practicing English throughout the day both in and out of the classroom. We also use students' working knowledge and native language to support language learning.
The PIE believes in student-centered education. We are happy to meet with students to create a study plan based upon their goals and objectives, and help students select the classes that are right for them. To read more about studying English at the PIE, please click here.
